COURSE INFORMATION - BA1 HISTORICAL AND THEORETICAL STUDIES - APPROACHES TO STUDYING FASHION AND TEXTILES
BA1 Historical and Theoretical Studies will be an introduction to the key theoretical and cultural ideas relevant for contemporary fashion and textiles. The focus will be on western fashion history with reference to global issues where appropriate. Classes will be discussion based and students will be expected to contribute to group seminar work requiring preparatory reading and research.
TERM 1 - INTRODUCTION TO FASHION THEORY
Term 1 is an introduction to the key theories relevant to fashion.
TERM 2 - INTRODUCTION TO THE CULTURE OF TEXTILES
Term 2 broadens the discussion to an understanding of the culture of textiles.
STUDY SKILLS
Study skills will be integrated with class discussions throughout the year.
KEY SKILLS
WORK DUE - THE CRITICAL RESEARCH REPORT AND THE RESEARCH PORTFOLIO
Students are required to be carrying out independent research throughout the year.
Assessment will be based on the CRITICAL RESEARCH REPORT and all of the supporting research in the RESEARCH PORTFOLIO (RESEARCH FILE, RESEARCH PRESENTATION 1 - RESEARCH PROPOSAL AND ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY, REFLECTIVE JOURNAL).
